PLEASURES OF SIMPLICITY OR PRESSURES OF SUCCESS?

I always thought life would be simple. I just wanted to be someone who would stop “bad guys” as a cop or rescue many people as a firefighter. You know, the sort of things similar to what superheroes would do. Needless to say those were dreams I possessed when my age was still in single digits. Those were the good old days when I didn’t have to care how much education I would need or how much money I would make from my job. As long as it was “cool”, it wouldn’t have mattered...

It’s amazing how everything changes when you start to grow up. Obviously in certain ways you mature for the better, such as learning not to take money for granted or how hard work, dedication, and persistence can get you ahead. However, many other things are lost due to growing up:

1) The sense of security from your parents – As you get older, you realize they’re not always going to be there. That sooner or later, you’ll have to become independent

2) Interaction with the opposite sex – Innocent gestures like writing a love letter during recess or giving the person you like a piece of your favorite candy bar no longer exist. Aren’t we suppose to be getting smarter as we grow up? It’s ironic how things in this department always seem to get more complicated instead. Painful experiences often occur constantly and yet sometimes we never learn or worse, never recover.

3) Your optimism/pessimism for others and the world – Personal experiences will shape your perspective in life. Many good events can make you feel hopeful for the world, while other unfortunate incidents that happen or caused by other people may leave you shrouded in doubt and become cynical. I personally believe that staying positive will lead to more successful outcomes, but I can understand how some others may feel if nothing ever seems to be going their way.

I remember many times throughout my youth that I couldn’t wait to grow up. But although it may seem great to stay young and carefree, some of the things we treasure most won't be achieved if we don't accept the pressures and hardships that come with them.

Just something I wanted to let out. How do you feel?

  1. Too much to be grasped. I don't think anyone can be problem and stress free nor see every issue of life clearly. It is like trying to fill a hole you dug by the beach with all the waters of the ocean (St. Augustine).
